What we do…
Cosan is an independent, specialist, pension services consulting firm.
We consult across a broad spectrum of pension service disciplines and our team helps pension scheme stakeholders – Trustees, Sponsors and Members – to optimise the services they receive. Our work involves consulting around both the delivery of business as usual services and projects, including the transitioning of work between providers.
The portfolio of work we have, past and present, involves optimising both inhouse delivered services and those outsourced to provider firms.
How we do it…
We take a highly consultative approach to our assignments – using various tools that that we have developed specifically to support the work that we do, including Cosan Project Office and our service optimisation consulting “wrapper” called ARM.
This means that we take great care to understand what a client’s issues are and how best to remedy them, now and for the future. To help us do this we have an expert team of business analysts and project managers who forensically look at the in-scope services. The output is a detailed fact-base which is the foundation to all our projects. As a result our clients receive a highly tailored service from us, ensuring great outcomes – all our clients are positive about the work we do for them, and all are referenceable.
Why we do what we do…
The Founders of the business, Ian and Philip, came to the conclusion that the pension services market wasn’t working well for clients, members and the providers of services. Being in leadership positions within a mainstream pension services organisation they could see that fundamental issues were rarely being solved permanently. All too often consultants would move services (and problems) from one place to another, often with the reasons why being unclear.
As a result, they decided to find a better way and Cosan was established! At the heart of their thinking was that “fix not fire” should always be the starting point, rather than simply moving the problem on when issues arose. Change is sometimes unavoidable of course. This may be because of changing client requirements, continued poor service, loss of trust in the provider or inhouse team, or lack of value for money. However, “fix not fire” is still at the centre of our approach and it has served our clients very well over the years.
We’re fiercely independent and we believe that our impartial and unfettered autonomy is more important than ever, including the fact that we never consult on services we ourselves provide. This gives our clients reassurance that they will get the best possible outcomes from the Cosan team.
